Should I go to urgent care or the emergency room?

Urgent care is the right choice when your condition needs attention today but is not life-threatening — things like sprains and possible fractures, cuts that may need stitches, fevers, respiratory infections, earaches, urinary tract infections, and minor burns. Go straight to the emergency room or call 911 for chest pain or pressure, signs of a stroke (face drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech), severe difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, major head injuries, or any condition that feels life-threatening. If you are not sure, call us and we will help you decide.

Do I need an appointment?

No — walk-ins are always welcome at both our Santa Fe and Española clinics. If you would like to shorten your wait, you can also save your spot online before you arrive.

What are your hours?

Santa Fe (3450 Zafarano Dr, Suite C): Monday–Friday 8am–9pm, Saturday–Sunday 9am–9pm.
Española (411 Santa Clara Bridge Rd): Monday–Friday 9am–6pm, Saturday–Sunday 9am–4pm.

Do I need insurance to be seen?

No. You do not need insurance to visit Aspen Medical Center — we offer reasonable self-pay fees for patients without coverage. Call us at 505-466-5885 (Santa Fe) or 505-747-6939 (Española) for current self-pay pricing, or to confirm we accept your insurance plan.

How much does an urgent care visit cost?

The cost depends on your insurance and the care you need, but an urgent care visit is almost always far less expensive than an emergency room visit for the same non-emergency condition. If you are paying out of pocket, call us for our current self-pay rates before your visit — we are happy to tell you what to expect.

Why does urgent care sometimes take longer than expected?

Urgent care clinics see patients based on medical urgency, not just arrival order — someone with a more serious condition may be taken back first. Wait times also vary with the season and time of day. You can shorten your wait by reserving your spot online before you arrive, and our team works hard to keep every step of your visit moving.

Do you have X-ray and lab services on site?

Yes. Our clinics have on-site X-ray, ultrasound, and a CLIA-certified laboratory, so most imaging and testing can be done during your visit — no separate trip required. Some specialized tests are sent to an outside lab and take a few days to come back.

Can you treat cuts that need stitches?

Yes. Our providers treat lacerations and wounds, including stitches, at both locations. For deep wounds with uncontrolled bleeding, go to the emergency room.

Do you do sports, school, DOT, and work physicals?

Yes — we offer general physicals, sports physicals, and DOT physicals performed by experienced clinicians, usually with no appointment needed.

Do you offer STD testing?

Yes. We provide confidential STD testing at both clinics. Some results are available while you are still in the office; others are processed at a specialized lab and take several days.

Can Aspen Medical Center be my primary care provider?

Yes. Alongside urgent care, we provide full primary care — routine checkups, chronic condition management, lab testing, referrals to specialists, and care coordination — for patients of all ages, all in one location.

What ages do you treat?

We care for the whole family — children, adults, and seniors — at both our Santa Fe and Española clinics.
